If this amendment still doesn’t work, it is possible that you might be using a firewall that is limiting the amount of information, or even changing the information that you can receive on your PC. Although we have taken care to design the site to be compatible with the most popular firewall vendors, it is quite possible that specific firewall settings or configuration could limit your experience of the FinancialSpreads.com site. If you are using a firewall and are not sure whether it is the cause of your problem, please email us with details of the type of firewall that you have.
As a simple test, you could shut down your firewall for a few seconds while you reload the FinancialSpreads.com site.
- If you are still experiencing trouble it is most likely that your firewall is not the root cause.
- If the problem is no longer evident, your firewall is most likely blocking/changing certain content. It would be a good idea to contact your firewall vendor for support. Most popular firewall vendors have online supports sites with information available on these topics
Please also be aware some employers block the downloading of Java applets and Flash movies. If you are not sure whether this is the case, please contact your employer’s network administrator for more information.

The site is very slow
Our site is optimised for access via an average dial-up modem. Slow responsiveness can sometimes be caused by such factors as:
- The speed of your computer
- The level of activity on the Global/National Internet
- The level of activity on your Internet connection (for example other simultaneous downloads)
- The level of users currently using your ISP
- Using a very busy Proxy server
- Also try updating to a more recent version of your Internet browser.
- You will always receive a better service when using a higher speed Internet connection. Broadband services will offer a substantial improvement in site responsiveness.

Why are the markets and prices screens appearing
as grey/white blank areas?
Depending on the version of Flash, your browser may
not correctly display the trading area of the www.FinancialSpreads.com website. The following explanation should
help resolve the problem:
There are a number of reasons why a grey or white
box appears where you expect the live prices to be.
Please be aware some employers block the downloading
of Flash movies.
- Internet Explorer (PC)
A grey or white box can either indicate that the
page did not download properly or your machine is
unable to run Flash movies. The first thing to try
is to delete your temporary Internet files and then
reconnect to www.FinancialSpreads.com: -
Select Tools > Internet Options > General
> Temporary Internet Files >Select 'Delete
Files' > Select 'Delete all off line content'
> Press OK and OK again. Close your browser immediately
without navigating. Now simply reconnect to the
Internet and access www.FinancialSpreads.com as you usually
would.
If the above fix does not work, it is likely your
computer cannot run Flash movies. Please ensure
you have confirmed the required plug-ins have been
installed on your browser correctly (Section 1.)
before pursuing the next option. If you already
have Flash installed and bypassed this step, it
may be that you have an older version of the Flash
plug-in than is required. Please follow the instructions
in “Do I need special software to trade with
FinancialSpreads.com”
As discussed above, the live charts on www.FinancialSpreads.com require your machine to run Java applets. Most computers use the Microsoft Virtual Machine (VM) but as of August 1st 2002 you can no longer update this virtual machine because Microsoft has removed the download from their site. An alternative version is available from Sun Microsystems the original developers of Java which is fully compatible with windows. Please follow this link: http://java.com and the latest version of Java will begin to install automatically. Alternatively you may go to this page to perform a manual installation:
http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Please follow the on screen instructions.
Most windows based computers have an early version
of Flash installed with Internet Explorer by default.
FinancialSpreads.com uses the latest version of Flash,
which may not have the corresponding plug-in installed
on your browser. If after following “Do I
need special software to trade with FinancialSpreads.com”
the Flash movies still don’t work, you can
try removing the Flash plug-in using the special
tool provided by macromedia, found at http://www.macromedia.com. Try removing the
plug-in first before installing it again. This hard
re-installation removes any corrupted software or
settings from your Flash plug-in.
- Netscape (PC)
With Netscape, problems with the loading or support of Java applets is only indicated by a white outlined box. The first thing to try is deleting all of your temporary Internet files and then re-request our Internet site.
Select Edit > Preferences > Advanced >
Cache > Click 'Clear Memory Cache' and 'Clear
Disk Cache'. Close your browser immediately without
navigating. . Now simply reconnect to the Internet
and access www.FinancialSpreads.com as you usually would.
If the above fix does not work, it is likely your
computer cannot run java applets. Please ensure
you have confirmed the settings on your browser
are correct (Section 1.) before pursuing the next
option.
As discussed above the live prices on www.FinancialSpreads.com
require your machine to run the latest version of
Flash. Netscape typically has an early version of
Flash installed as default. FinancialSpreads.com uses
the latest version of Flash, which may not have
the corresponding plug-in installed on your browser.
If after following “Do I need special software
to trade with FinancialSpreads.com” the Flash movies
still don’t work, you can try removing the
Flash plug-in using the special tool provided by
macromedia, found at
http://www.macromedia.com/.
Try removing the plug-in first before installing
it again. This hard re-installation removes any
corrupted software or settings from your Flash plug-in.
- Internet Explorer (Mac)
Please follow the instructions given above
- Netscape (Mac)
The navigation to clearing your Internet cache is
slightly different please:
1. Select Edit > Preferences > Advanced >
Cache > Click 'Empty Now'
2. Follow the instructions above to update your
Flash and java plug-ins.
The message 'Server unavailable' is displayed
where the last update usually appears.
This problem is caused by a poor connection to the
Internet. Please disconnect from the Internet then
re-connect. Also ensure that you are not currently
downloading any large files. Most of the time, this
will resolve the problem.
