866.4
Buy

868.1

Here's an example of how the market works

The Spread Betting Price:866.4p - 868.1p
This Means That:You can spread bet on the AMEC Rolling Cash market to go:

  Spread Betting Above 868.1p, or
  Spread Betting Below 866.4p

This spread betting market is a 'Rolling' market meaning that it does not have an expiry date. If you decide not to close your position and the session ends then your trade will roll over into the next session.

Note that if the trade is rolled over then you will normally either be credited or debited for overnight financing depending upon whether you are speculating on the market to fall or rise. For more details see Rolling Spread Bets.

Worked Spread Betting Example - Buying AMEC

Spread trading on the equity to increase in value

You Choose to Go Long or Short: AMEC going:

  Spread Betting Above 868.1p? or
  Spread Betting Below 866.4p?

Let's Assume You Decide to Buy:   Spread Betting Above 868.1p
You Decide Your Stake Size, Let's Say You Select: £3 per penny
What Now?
  • You will make £3 for every penny AMEC pushes above 868.1p
  • You will lose £3 for each penny AMEC decreases lower than 868.1p
If You Are Betting on a Market to Go Up Your P/L = (Closing Price - Opening Price) x stake

Situation 1
AMEC climbs and the spread trading market becomes 904.1p - 905.8p, so you'd see:   904.1   905.8
Close and Take Your Profit? At this point, you can choose to let your position run or close it and take your profit. In this instance you choose to settle your bet by selling at 904.1p.
Your P/L = (Closing Price - Opening Price) x stake
(904.1p - 868.1p) x £3 per penny
36.0p x £3 per penny
Your P/L = £108.00 profit

Situation 2
AMEC decreases and the financial spread betting market is revised and set at 835.5p - 837.2p, i.e. on Financial Spreads you'd see:   835.5   837.2
Close and Restrict Your Loss? At this point, you may opt to leave your spread bet open or close it to restrict your losses. In this instance you decide to settle your bet by selling the market at 835.5p.
Your P/L = (Closing Price - Opening Price) x stake
(835.5p - 868.1p) x £3 per penny
-32.6p x £3 per penny
Your P/L = -£97.80 loss

Worked Spread Trading Example - Selling AMEC

Spread betting on the equity to fall

You Now Work Out Whether to Buy or Sell: AMEC to move:

  Spread Betting Above 868.1p? or
  Spread Betting Below 866.4p?

Let's Assume You Decide to Go Short:   Spread Betting Below 866.4p
You Choose Your Stake, Let's Assume You Choose: £2 per penny
What Happens Now?
  • You will lose £2 for each penny AMEC rises above 866.4p
  • You will make £2 for each penny AMEC moves below 866.4p
When You Sell a Market Your P/L = (Opening Price - Closing Price) x stake

Situation 3
