The euro rose against the dollar on Wednesday; the value of the dollar took a hit as Janet Yellen said the Federal Reserve will keep benchmark interest rates low even as the economy improves to ensure a sustained recovery.

EUR/USD was also pushed higher by a mixed bag of US economic indicators, with investors now looking to tomorrows Initial Jobless claim figures for a sign of things to come.

Rising US inflation of 0.2% in March came as positive news for the dollar, with the bulls hoping that this welcoming news would encourage the Fed to raise interest rates sooner than expected.

The dollar made strong gains against several currencies, however, EUR/USD ended the day flat, with the euro finding support as investors are lured in by the falling cost of borrowing in the EU.

The dollar had a strong Monday session, with US retail sales shooting up in March.

Nevertheless, EUR/USD remained fairly unchanged, with concerns still looming over the geopolitical landscape in the Ukraine.

The pair has also been finding support from the recent declines in US bond yields.
