How to Spread Bet on Pfizer

Let's imagine that you look at the FinancialSpreads site and the trading platform is showing a price of:

  Pfizer Rolling Cash Sell

3467.0
Buy

3472.0

This is an example of how it works:

Market:Pfizer Rolling Cash
Price (Spread):3467.0¢ - 3472.0¢
This Means That:You can spread bet on the Pfizer Rolling Cash market to push:

  Spread Betting Above 3472.0¢, or
  Spread Betting Below 3467.0¢

This spread betting market is a 'Rolling' market meaning that it does not have a settlement date. If you don't close your trade and the trading session ends then your trade will roll over into the next trading session.

Note: if the trade is rolled over then you will normally either receive or pay a small fee for overnight financing based on whether you are speculating on the market to fall or rise. For further information also see Rolling Spread Betting.
Traded Units:Spread betting trades on the Pfizer market are made in £x per cent price movement.

E.g. if Pfizer moves 40.0¢ then you would lose / win 40 times your stake.
Stake Size:You decide how much you would like to stake per cent, e.g. £3 per cent, £4 per cent, £10 per cent etc.
Brief Example:As an example, if you decided on a stake of £3 per cent and Pfizer moves by 28.0¢, you would win / lose £3 per cent x 28.0¢ = £84.

Worked Spread Betting Example - Going Long of Pfizer

Financial spread betting on the equity to go up in value

You Now Decide to Go Long or Short: Pfizer going:

  Spread Betting Above 3472.0¢? or
  Spread Betting Below 3467.0¢?

Let's Assume You Want to Go Long:   Spread Betting Above 3472.0¢
You Choose Your Stake Size, Let's Say You Opt For: £4 per cent
So What Now?
  • You will make a profit of £4 for every cent Pfizer pushes higher than 3472.0¢
  • Your trade loses £4 for each cent Pfizer pushes lower than 3472.0¢
When Going Long of a Market Your Profits (or Losses) = (Final Price - Opening Price) x stake

Trading Scenario 1
Pfizer goes higher and the spread betting market is adjusted to 3515.4¢ - 3520.4¢. Therefore you'd see:   3515.4   3520.4
Time to Take Your Profit? You may decide to leave your trade open or close it, i.e. close your position to lock in your profit. In this example you decide to settle your position by selling at 3515.4¢.
Your Profits (or Losses) = (Final Price - Opening Price) x stake
(3515.4¢ - 3472.0¢) x £4 per cent
43.4¢ x £4 per cent
Your Profits (or Losses) = £173.60 profit

Trading Scenario 2
Pfizer drops and the spread trading market is revised and moved to 3425.1¢ - 3430.1¢, therefore you'd see:   3425.1   3430.1
Time to Restrict Your Loss? At this point, you can opt to leave your spread bet open or close it in order to restrict your loss. For this example, you choose to close your bet and sell the market at 3425.1¢.
Your Profits (or Losses) = (Final Price - Opening Price) x stake
(3425.1¢ - 3472.0¢) x £4 per cent
-46.9¢ x £4 per cent
Your Profits (or Losses) = -£187.60 loss
